Digital Camera Introductory Workshop

A two-hour Workshop.

This small group session introduces you to the fundamentals of operating your camera and understanding its menus and controls. It will ‘get you started’ and have you using your camera with confidence. It suits all camera types.

If you have trouble understanding the instruction book then this is for you!

We strongly suggest you complete this session before undertaking any other Teach Me Photo workshop.

The Workshop covers the following:

  • General operation, using the screen, buttons, controls & working the menus.
  • Setting image size and quality, flash settings and how to get sharper pictures.
  • Reviewing, checking focus and info.
  • Question time with individual answers.

Better Family & Holiday Pictures - Using Auto Modes

A course of 3 weekly two-hour Workshops.

We take you through the controls on your camera with hands on exercises, so you learn by doing. By completion you should be able to use your camera with confidence and produce better pictures of your favourite subjects.

This series of 3 workshops is to help you get started, no matter what type of camera you have.

We strongly suggest you complete the two-hour ‘Digital Camera Introductory Workshop’ before undertaking these workshops.

Week 1: Better family pictures

Creating better family pictures at home. Understanding how to get better backgrounds, using available light and flash to improve your results. Composing the shot to be interesting. Understanding how your lens can distort your pictures if you are not careful. Lots of tips and tricks.

Week 2: Improve your holiday / landscape pictures

Getting better holiday pictures. Understanding how the time of day and lighting conditions affect your end result. Learn key composition techniques to create ‘Wow’ pictures. Find out how to capture those great night shots too. Plenty of travel tips also.

Week 3: Capture family moments

Capture those family celebration moments such as birthdays, weddings etc. Greg shows you ways of getting fantastic results in demanding situations. What to do in low light situations. Learn how to get the best out of your camera. Make the memories last with better pictures.

SLR Digital Camera Workshops: Getting Started

If you’ve graduated to a new digital SLR, or moved from film, this series of 5 weekly two-hour Workshops will help you understand your camera, its menus and controls, using Program mode and help you make the most of the power and control that advanced digital photography gives you.

By completion you will be more confident, understanding how to get the best results from your camera.

Week 1: Improved control for portraits

  • Overview of Program Camera controls and menus / RAW
  • Camera Colour settings
  • Camera light metering modes
  • Understanding ISO sensitivity
  • Exercise: Practical application of ISO when shooting a portrait

Week 2: Exposure control for better landscape results

  • Learn about critical exposure to get better results
  • Using the Compensation control and Auto Bracketing

Week 3: Capture great still life and close-ups

  • Understanding White balance and creative use

Fantastic editing using Photoshop Elements* Getting Started: Level 1

This series is to help you get started, understanding how to work your way around this powerful software. Get to know the important basics help you to get the most out of your software.

By completion you should be able to download, size, crop, retouch, insert text and print with confidence.

If you are confused or have bought Photoshop Elements software but have no idea where to start, then this series is for you.

The series runs for two hours each week over 5 weeks.

Week 1: Learn about downloading and organising your photos

Downloading and catalogue basics: getting started with downloading, organising, sorting, creating collections and finding images.

Week 2: Great organiser tools and editing fundamentals

Working with simple text and printing basics. Discover how easy it is to put text or a title on your favourite picture. Learn about printing and what to set your printer on to get the best quality.
